what it is about
Across the African coastline, impactful changes are building - a new generation is finding freedom, strength and purpose in the waves. "Riding the Wave of Change: The Rise of African Surfing" is a visual storytelling project documenting the dynamic rise of the surf culture across African nations.
Why it Matters
This is not just about surfing. It is about opportunity, equality and belonging. Highlighting its impact on youth development and community building. Many of the Organisations, Surf Clubs and Communities that we are documenting are creating a safe space for the youth, working against gender inequality, supporting mental health and other social issues.
how your support helps
Every bit of funding goes directly into making this project a reality. The Money will go into covering travel costs, accommodation, equipment, food and paying for everyone involved, from local creatives who join the project to surfers who share their stories. Your support helps to share these stories responsibly, respectfully, with depth, care and authenticity.
looking ahead
This project will grow into exhibitions, a photo book, and ongoing collaborations that celebrate African surf culture and its impact.
If this project caught your attention — ride the wave of change with us.
Through photography, film and personal stories, it captures the energy, culture, resilience and raw talent of young African Surfing. It connects closely with the communities and organisations that are using the ocean as a tool for empowerment and change.
All through the collective act of getting into the ocean. By sharing these stories, we are supporting the Initiatives and Individuals, raising awareness for these movements that are shaping a brighter future. We empower these communities and bring the African Surf scene to a global audience.
